In Memoriam
Mary E. Porritt, daughter of James S. and Louisa L., was the oldest of four children. She was born in the Village of Orion, July 29, 1860. Practically all her life was spent here.
She was married to John C. Belles, Sept. 19, 1879. of the five children born to them, two died in infancy.
At an early age, she joined the Congregational Church taking an active part in the Sunday school work. She was a charter member of the Ladies of the Maccabees and formerly a member of the Eastern Star.
In the prime of life she was stricken with paralysis and had been an invalid and a patient sufferer for sixteen years. The end came suddenly, being stricken Friday night with apoplexy and she passed away early on Saturday morning.
Survivors: one brother, Edward James Porritt of Clarkston, Michigan, and three children, Isole M. Joyce and Linton A. Belles of Detroit and J. L. Belles of Orion.
Impressive funeral services were held here from the home of the son, J. L. Belles, on Monday afternoon, with interment in the family plot in Evergreen Cemetery, Rev. Cutler officiating.
